Travel Advisory – Congress Proceeding as Planned

We can confirm that the World Congress on Family Law and Children’s Rights 2025 will proceed as scheduled in Cambridge, United Kingdom, from 27–29 July 2025.

We are aware of recent reports regarding potential travel disruptions in parts of the Middle East. Please be assured that we are monitoring the situation. At present, major international airlines are successfully rerouting long-haul flights—particularly those from Australia and other parts of the Asia-Pacific—around affected areas. These changes are not expected to significantly impact travel to the United Kingdom.

There are currently no plans to cancel or postpone the Congress, and we look forward to welcoming delegates from around the world to Cambridge this July.

For delegates travelling from Australia, we recommend referring to the official Smartraveller website for the latest government travel advice:

We will continue to monitor the situation and update this page with any relevant developments.

We strongly recommend that all delegates purchase comprehensive travel insurance that includes coverage for flight cancellations, delays, and other unexpected travel disruptions. This is especially important for international travellers in the current global context.

gETTING TO CAMBRIDGE

Travelling by air

London Stansted is the closest airport to Cambridge (approx. 50 mins by road).  Both Ryanair and easyJet offer cheap flights from Europe to London Stansted.  London Gatwick and London Heathrow are approx. 2 hours by road. Luton Airport can also be used.

Transport to/from London airports:

Travelling by train

London is less than one hour away by train. There are frequent train services (from London King’s Cross and Liverpool Street) between the two cities until late at night. Further information about train times and routes, including timetables and fares can be found at:

National Rail Enquiries

The Trainline – plan and buy UK train tickets

London Underground (tube maps)

Travelling around Cambridge

We highly recommend travelling by public transport as parking in Cambridge is hard to find and very expensive.

Universal is the frequent bus link from Girton and Eddington in West Cambridge to the historic city centre, rail station and Biomedical Campus in the south - these run every 15 mins.

The stop outside Selwyn College on route U1 or the stops at the University Library on route U2 are about a 5-8 minute walk from the Faculty of Law.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

The UK Government announced the next phase in the introduction of Electronic Travel Authorisations (ETAs) worldwide for visitors to the UK who do not currently need a visa for short stays, or who do not already have a UK immigration status prior to travelling.

An ETA is a digital permission to travel to the UK and has been introduced as part of the Government’s transformation and digitisation of the UK border. It is currently open to countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). As of 10 September 2024, Jordanian nationals can no longer apply for an ETA.

An ETA costs £10, permits multiple journeys and is valid for two years or until the holder’s passport expires – whichever date is sooner. The ETA grants travel to the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business or short-term study, and for transiting through the UK.
