Glasgow is easy to get to by public transport! Why not make your journey more sustainable – it may be easier than you think.
Getting to Glasgow from elsewhere in the UK is easy / quick by train (see below for further details)
Why not make your journey to/from the airport more sustainable? It’s easy and quick to get to the university by public transport from the airport:
First Leg – Airport to City Centre:
Option 1: Glasgow Airport Express (Service 500)
Board the Glasgow Airport Express bus, Service 500, from the airport. It's a direct service to Glasgow city centre.
Enjoy a comfortable ride with free Wi-Fi. The journey to Buchanan Bus Station takes about 15 minutes.
Buses run every 10 minutes at peak times.
Option 2: Local Bus Services
Alternatively, local bus services such as the 77 or 747 can be used. These are more economical but may take longer (journey time approximately 1h, but with free wi-fi onboard). You may alight on Argyle Road by Kelvingrove Art Gallery and walk through Kelvingrove park to the St Andrews Building.
Second Leg - From Buchanan Bus Station to the University:
Option 1: Subway
From Buchanan Bus Station, walk to Buchanan Street Subway Station (about 5 minutes).
Take the subway (Inner Circle) to Kelvinbridge Subway Station. The subway runs every 5 minutes, and the journey takes about 7 minutes.
From Kelvinbridge Station, the St. Andrews Building is a short 5-minute walk through the Kelvin Walkway.
Option 2: Bus
You can also catch a bus from near Buchanan Bus Station to the University. Look for services such as the 4/4A (alight at Eldon Street), which will drop you close to the St. Andrews Building or the 6 (alight at Kelvinbrigde opposite Landsdowne Crescent).
Edinburgh International Airport
Buchanan Bus Station is the main terminus for long distance coaches and is close to Buchanan Street subway station. Timetables at www.travelinescotland.com
Intercity links to all major cities. Frequent services to Edinburgh (50 minutes), London (5 hours), Manchester (3.5 hours), Birmingham (5 hours), Bristol (6 hours).
There are two city-centre terminals, Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central (served by Buchanan St and St Enoch subway stations respectively). Timetables at www.travelinescotland.com
From Carlisle, Newcastle and the south, exit M74 on to the M73, joining the M8 at the Old Monkland junction. M8 exits for the University are J18 if travelling from the south, Edinburgh and the north and J19 if coming from Glasgow Airport and the west. Other main routes serving the University include Great Western Road (A82, north of campus), Clydeside Expressway (A814, south) and Byres Road (B808, west).
On campus parking is limited to permit holders. Car parking in the areas around the campus is extremely difficult. There are various pay & display parking spaces around the local Byres Road and Kelvin Way areas but spaces are limited. You may want to consider using the city's Subway Park & Ride scheme. This service costs around £5 and Kelvinbridge subway station has parking which is only 5 minutes walk away.
