Important Information

Before submitting an abstract, please make sure you read the Guidelines for Review and Selection and the General Guidelines below:

Guidelines for Review and Selection

The Programme Chair performs an initial review of all abstract submissions. The Programme Chair may, at their discretion, re-categorise the abstracts. Abstracts are then submitted to the individual Session Chairs who review, rank, and select abstracts for presentation at the BMLA Annual Conference. The Session Chairs also take into consideration the following criteria when reviewing abstracts:

  •  Abstracts should not normally have been published or presented previously (clinical series updates and reviews are an exception to this stipulation).
  • The selection of talks for presentation will usually be limited to those where the work has been completed at the time of submission.
  • Trials in progress: please submit if you feel that the topic would be of interest to delegates and there will be adequate findings to report on by the date of the conference. Trials in progress have been presented at past conferences and the collaborate and supportive environment has led to productive discussions during the meeting. Not all abstracts will be accepted due to limited space in the programme but the reviewers will provide feedback and will encourage resubmission at future conferences if they feel the trial is at too early a stage.
  • The number of patients in the study will be taken into consideration. Scientific, well-designed studies are given preference over anecdotal findings or single  case.
  • Abstracts will be published in the Lasers in Medical Science journal, after the conference.
  • Abstracts must be of high quality and be presented with no bias toward specific companies.
  • Each author of an abstract submitted to the BMLA must have made a significant contribution to the research and must assume responsibility for the content of the abstract.
  • Full disclosure of Conflict of Interest (COI) is expected and required of ALL presenting authors and co-authors. This should be on the slides at the start of the presentation.
