2023 Annual Conference of the
British Medical Laser Association

Thank you for your interest in the BMLA 2023 Annual Conference & Educational Courses. We look forward to see our registered delegates in Cardiff!

Welcome from the President

Dear BMLA members, colleagues and friends,

The world moved on with cautious determination in 2022 and embraced the face-to-face experiences and opportunities to network that we all missed, and with that our 39th Annual Conference, delivered in the historic city of Edinburgh, was a great success.

I am now delighted to extend to you all an invitation to join us for the BMLA 2023 Annual Conference with Educational Courses, our 40th annual event of this kind, which will be held at the voco® St David’s Hotel & Conference Centre, Cardiff, between the 10th and the 12th of May 2023.

We are shaping the event as yet another occasion for all medics, surgeons, nurses, technicians, aestheticians, scientists, students and therapists involved in the field, to gather, share knowledge and disseminate the latest advances in the laser and light-based devices arena, for the continual improvement of patients’ and clients’ health and wellbeing.

In a continued endeavour to cater for such a diverse group of candidates, the BMLA seeks to challenge the norms and develop a high quality, evidence based, scientific programme to stimulate the minds of medical and aesthetic laser enthusiasts.

Wednesday 10th of May will be our courses day, starting with the Core of Knowledge followed by an additional five specialised courses delivered by an expert faculty team. These courses are usually highly subscribed, the demand for spaces has grown year on year, with feedback being consistently very high, so make sure you book your place.

Two conference days follow on 11 and 12 May. We will continue to deliver two dedicated ‘nursing and therapist’ sessions as part of the main conference programme, with plenty of opportunities for debate. Not only do we continue to include dedicated conference sessions for skin laser treatments, paediatrics, photodynamic therapy, photobiomodulation and laser safety, but we will also present lasers in dentistry as a separate session, which proved to be another very popular topic amongst our dental colleagues.

Lasers in veterinary medicine is a new topic in our conference programme, which we are delighted to promote and are certain will prove of interest to our attendees.

This year’s ‘Great Debate’ proposes a new “judge and jury” format, with arguments around the controversial statement “Aesthetics is easy with no qualifications required”. It promises to provoke a very interesting debate not to be missed.

Last but certainly not least, we are very pleased to confirm that the 2023 programme will feature two sponsored Masterclasses as parallel sessions on Thursday 11 May – stay tuned for more details on content!  On that note, I, and my fellow Executive Board colleagues, look forward to seeing you in May and give you a very Welsh welcome to a great venue on Cardiff Bay! See you then…
