Abstract Submission

If you would like to join the scientists, researchers and physicians who will present their work at the BMLA 2022 Annual Conference, please submit the title of your talk and a 250 word Abstract via the link at the bottom of this page

The BMLA will invite accepted abstract submitters to present their clinical or scientific research based upon the abstract content, as oral presenters or digital poster presenters. All selected presenters must register to attend the conference.

Abstract Submission has closed on Thursday 31st March 2022 (midnight UK time). Please contact the organisers for more details.

Important Information

Before submitting an abstract, please make sure you read the Guidelines for Review and Selection and the General Guidelines below:

Guidelines for Review and Selection

The Programme Chair performs an initial review of all abstract submissions. The Programme Chair may, at his/her discretion, re-categorise the abstracts. Abstracts are then submitted to the individual Session Chairs who review, rank, and select abstracts for presentation at the BMLA Annual Conference. The Session Chairs also take into consideration the following criteria when reviewing abstracts:

  •  Abstracts should not normally have been published or presented previously (clinical series updates and reviews are an exception to this stipulation).
  • All scientific research referred to, reported on, or used in the abstract must conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Selection of abstracts for presentation will be limited to those abstracts that report already collected data. Abstracts must contain tangible factual information and should accurately reflect work that has actually been performed. Statements such as 'results will be discussed’ are unacceptable.
  • Trials in progress: Please submit if you feel that the topic would be of interest to delegates and there will be adequate findings to report on by the date of the conference. Trials in progress have been presented at past conferences and the collaborate and supportive environment has led to productive discussions during the meeting. Not all abstracts will be accepted due to limited space in the programme but the reviewers will provide feedback and will encourage resubmission at future conferences if they feel the trial is at too early a stage.
  • The number of patients in the study will be taken into consideration. Scientific, well-designed studies are given preference over anecdotal findings or single experiment or case, which will also be considered for presentation at the conference.
  • Abstracts will be published in the Lasers in Medical Science journal, after the conference.
  • Abstracts must be of high quality and be presented with no bias toward specific companies.
  • Each author of an abstract submitted to the BMLA must have made a significant contribution to the research and must assume responsibility for the content of the abstract.
  • Full disclosure of Conflict of Interest (COI) is expected and required of ALL presenting authors and co-authors. This should be on the slides at the start of the presentation.

• Keep your title concise and informative and only use capital letters for the beginning of a sentence or an acronym/name. DO NOT USE CAPITAL LETTERS FOR YOUR ENTIRE TITLE.

• List all authors’ names in full and identify a presenting author. The email address supplied when you submit your abstract will be used for all correspondence pertaining to the abstract.

• Addresses should be in the following format: Department/Institute, Organisation, Town/City, Postcode, Country

• Do not include acknowledgements in your abstracts – these will be included in your word count.

• Please ensure that the email provided when submitting the abstract will still be valid in March/April 2022 when the abstract notification is emailed.

• All selected abstract presenters are required to register as a paying delegate for the conference. A selected abstract presenter does not have the same entitlements as an invited speaker.

• You will be asked during the registration process to confirm that, in the eventuality that any of the conference sessions are streamed virtually, you give consent for your recorded presentation, and related recorded Q&A session, to be available on the platform for up to 3 months post-event and potentially on the BMLA website for members to access thereafter.

•  To make the most of the early bird conference registration fees it is advisable to register as soon as registration opens, even if this is before the abstract review results are published. If your abstract is not accepted for the conference and you decide you no longer wish to attend, there will be a £25 administration fee to cancel your registration.

• Should you need to withdraw your abstract, please contact office@bmla.co.uk and we will be able to guide you through whether this is possible, depending on the stage of the process.

What happens after you have submitted?

You will receive a confirmation email that your submission has been received. Your abstract will be sent for review after the deadline and you will be notified of the outcome by email by the end of March.
