Currently navigating the first steps in building a Lean culture in a new university, the CI team at TU Dublin team share their unique journey and experiences so far. With sustainability a strategic priority for their University, Ruth Isdell and Dr Sarah McElwee from the team share their early approaches to embedding Lean process improvement, the resulting changes and challenges as well as their plans for the future. With honest insights and interactive feedback elements, this session celebrates the highs and lows of building a new CI team.

Ruth joined Technological University Dublin as a Lean Lead in 2023. Ruth has worked in the Higher Education sector since 2002, previously working in manufacturing and telecoms. Ruth’s approach is deeply rooted in continuous improvement, driving process streamlining to maximize customer satisfaction and organisational effectiveness.

Sarah McElwee is Head of Change Management at Technological University Dublin, where she leads a newly-formed team of Change Managers and Lean Process Improvement Leads supporting strategic projects at this new institution. Sarah worked for over 20 years in education research, teaching and consultancy roles, before moving into change management.
